The Lost Crag

Coopers Rock, WV
(Wednesday, June 29, 2011)

We have spent A LOT of time outside lately.  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  We are starting to get back into rock climbing after the "incident".  We took an outdoor climbing class on Sunday at Coopers Rock to learn everything there is to know about outdoor climbing compared to indoor climbing.  It was so awesome.  We were so excited after the class, that we decide to head out on Tuesday night to try it out on our own.  We went to the Lost Crag, which is where we've bouldered before (and where Brett broke his foot).  This was a total bust.  Everything was soaking wet and it wasn't even a good place to climb anyway.  We decided to veto that place from now on.

Bummed that we didn't get to climb Tuesday night, we decide to try again Wednesday by going back to Coopers Rock.  PERFECT!  This place is awesome.  And so perfect for climbing.  I didn't take any pictures during our climbing session.  But I did snap some photos of the awesome overlook.  Last night, we finished climbing and headed over to the overlook just in time to catch this awesome sunset (above).

I love, love, LOVE the outdoors.

Here's to a great & inspiring week!
(full of all these things)

Do you know how hard it is to resist cookies?  I'll tell you.  Hard.  Usually when I bake cookies, I bake them for no reason at all.  Just for Brett and I to eat to our delight.  However!  I was asked to bake some cookies for my sissy-in-law's high school graduation party tomorrow.  Meaning... we couldn't eat them.  Meaning... we were sad.  Meaning...  we each snuck one anyway. ;)

Moving on!  As I mentioned above, we are heading to Erie (again) this weekend for Brett's little sister's graduation party.  We are planning on driving up tonight, but later in the evening instead of right after work, to hopefully avoid ridiculous traffic.  Then on Sunday, the plan is to leave Erie super early and drive straight down to Cooper's Rock in West Virginia for an outdoor rock climbing class!  I'm excited!  I just hope the weather holds out.  It's pretty much been raining here non-stop for basically the whole month of June.  Anyone else getting unusually large amounts of rain right now?!

Now all I need to do is get through this afternoon at work (which is draaaaaaaagging).  Why do Fridays at the office always seem to creep by so slowly??  Oh, how I long for the dream job of stay-at-home blogger/writer... Who's got the hookup?!

Regardless, HAPPY FRIDAY!*
And happy weekend (soon)!
What are your plans??

Jump for joy, it's SUMMER!

Today is the first day of Summer.  However, with the weather lately, it feels like it's been Summer for quite a while now.  I mean, I've been drinking ICED coffee for weeks already.  And iced coffee = Summer.  I've also been sweating profusely in my house.  No AC = sweaty monster.  So yeah, iced coffee + sweaty monster = Summer ...but now it's official.

Last night, we went to the farmer's market.  Now, what else screams Summer more than a farmer's market?  Nothing. Though we were a little disappointed with this particular farmer's market that we went to.  We had never been to this one before and they were seriously lacking on produce.  I don't know if it's still to early in the year or if this farmer's market is just not that good, but regardless we weren't impressed.  We did still manage to get a few select veggies like onions, tomatoes, and a zucchini (I can't believe I spelled that right on my first try!).

For dinner, we made mushroom risotto and roasted veggies (broccoli & cauliflower).  YUM.  It was so delicious, I could have eaten the whole pan, but I refrained.  Brett also prepped fresh homemade salsa (um, and also smashed our blender into a billion pieces... :) ) to have with our Mexican themed dinner tonight!  We're having enchiladas with homemade enchilada sauce.

Homemade salsa,
fresh local produce,
cool drinks...

What's your favorite thing about Summer?!*

Good Morning!

Good morning!

I hope you enjoyed my recap of our Hilton Head Island vacation.  And I hope you didn't get sick of seeing 6 days worth of pictures from it... If so, sorry!  But I enjoyed writing them and will love to look back on those posts when I need a vacation pick-me-up. ;)

Moving on!  How was your weekend?  Mine was eventful...  Friday night was spent catching up with friends who were in town.  Saturday took us out of town for another wedding (which we missed the entire ceremony because of traffic...).  And Sunday we spent the evening at my parent's house celebrating Father's Day!

So, on Friday I had the day off work and I decided to do the "photo every hour" idea.  I am still working on the post for it, but it was fun!  It was actually kind of hard to remember to take a photo every hour, but I think I managed to be pretty successful with it.  So "a day in the life" blog post coming soon!  Scratch that... while editing these photos, I decided that this day was way too boring to dedicate a blog post to.  So I'm going to re-do this little project someday on a weekend when we have lots of exciting things going on! ;)

This was a completely pointless post...
but I just wanted to say hiiiiiiiiiiiii
& I hope your weekend was great!

Onward with the week!

Hilton Head Island - Day 6

Our last day in Hilton Head... heading home that night... Sad.  We spent the morning biking around the island and eating delicious Mexican food for lunch before making the drive back to the Atlanta airport.  We were seriously depressed all morning.  Numerous times we contemplated booking a few more nights and extending our vacation, but we had to be at a wedding that weekend, so no bueno.  Hilton Head is one of our most favorite places to go for a nice, relaxing escape.  We are already counting down the days until we are reunited with this sweet, sweet island.

The Barony Beach grounds are so pretty
Loved these tree/flower things
Smiling, but actually really sad on the inside because we are leaving...
Saying bye to the ocean one last time
Hilton Head Island flowers to end our trip
We made our way to Atlanta in the late afternoon and happily discovered that there was a Mellow Mushroom near the airport.  So obviously we stopped for dinner before catching our flight back to Pittsburgh.  That put us at a total count of 3 times that we ate Mellow Mushroom during this trip... :)  We landed in Pittsburgh around midnight and were home sweet home by 1am, dreaming about where we just were.

Ahhh, Hilton Head.  We'll be back!

Hilton Head Island - Day 5

Day 5, day 5, day 5... We had another delicious breakfast on our balcony, biked around more, relaxed on the beach more, drank tasty beers some more... is this getting repetitive?  Well, good!  These are the only things you are supposed to do on vacation, so there!  Oh, and some how we ended up at Coco's again...  They must have some kind of magnetic force... I ain't complainin'!

Red Stripe, palm trees, sunshine, yup
Awesome bike paths are scattered throughout Hilton Head
Look familiar?  Coco's here we come!  ...again
"Deer and a Beer" = Shot of tequila (with a deer on the bottle) & a Coronita 2pm
Mmm, refreshing!
Coco's <3
Wine, cheese & crackers at sunset <3
Trying to act like adults in our fancy villa... FAIL
This was our last night in Hilton Head.  We were so sad to be leaving.  We ended the night on the beach at sunset, sipping wine and eating cheese & crackers as the sun went down.  Everything was perfect.  I really didn't want to go home...

Hilton Head Island - Day 4

Day 4 began with dancing like a robot and a delicious breakfast on our awesome villa balcony.  We didn't have many plans for the day except relaxing on the beach, going for bike rides, and laughing... that's pretty much it.  Sounds good to me!

Brett bustin' a move
View from our balcony
I love palm trees
Pretty flowers everywhere
Mid-biking on the beach
Doesn't get much better than this
My view
For dinner that night, we went to a place on the harbour called Nick's Fish Market.  You'd think being a fish market, they would... have good fish.  Wrong.  Dinner was yuck, but on the plus side, the view was awesome and there was live music playing right along the water.  So still a win.

Hilton Head Island - Day 3

We had a 4 day, 3 night package booked at Marriott's Barony Beach villas,  so our first night in Hilton Head was spent in a Comfort Inn hotel room, and day 3 had us packing up our stuff and making our way over to the Barony Beach villas.  These villas are seriously so amazing.  We made a few (read: several) pit stops along the way to checking into our villa: coffee shop relaxing, shopping in the beach plaza, losing track of time at coco's (best bar on EARTH), and grocery shopping.  Hint: Don't go grocery shopping after you've had a few beers.  You will inevitably end up with lots of SNACKS in your cart...

Killin time till the shops open
Coolest wall EVER
Happy vacationers
Secret passage to Coco's... I've said too much!
Best place EVER
These helped with the 95 degree heat :)
Seriously, so cool
Best chicken sandwich I ever had!  And probably the cheapest!
Signs that make me smile
"Coco's 20 steps"
There she is!  Love you, ocean
Hey mon!
It's been 4 hours?  Still at Coco's?  Oops!
This pretty much sums up the awesomeness of our vacation
Hubby in deep thought... "Why is my wife so COOL?!"
Cabanas at the Marriott villas... yeah, we spent a lot of time here
All dressed up to head to dinner at Carrabbas!
Day 3 was probably one of my favorite days.  We literally lost track of time at Coco's and it was allllllright with us.  Lots of relaxing, lots of sunshine, lots of drinks.  This is what vacations are made of.
