Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!*

Last night we finally carved our pumpkins that we got at the pumpkin patch a few weekends ago.  Well, Brett carved his pumpkin.  I ended up painting mine with black glittery nail polish because it decided to rot before I got a chance to carve it.  I guess we should have waited a littler closer to Halloween to go get our pumpkins.  Lesson learned!  Though, it was kind of fun to paint it for a change.

Due to Hurricane Sandy, our township moved trick or treating to Saturday instead of tonight, so we won't get to pass out candy!  Oh darn, looks like we are just going to have to eat the three bags we bought for the kiddies... ;)  Even though there will be no trick or treaters tonight, I will still celebrate Halloween the best way I know how... by drinking pumpkin beer and watching my favorite Halloween movie of all time: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"  ;)

{5 Things I Loved About This Weekend}

The rain is coming down here in Pittsburgh, due to Hurricane Sandy making her way through the Northeast... It's been raining all weekend actually, which made for some interesting festivities.  But we made the best of it!  On Saturday, we headed up to Edinboro University to visit my little sister Brita in her first year of college.  Even though we had to trudge our way around campus through the rain and cold, it was still nice to have the family all together again.  We also took advantage of our location and hit up some breweries along the way home.  Would you except anything less??  All in all, despite the rain, it was a good weekend.

Here are 5 things I loved about it...

1.  Finally eating the pizza I've been craving
ever since I listened to Josh & Chuck's "How Stuff Works" podcast on pizza,
and then going home to a relaxing campfire in the backyard

2.  Getting to see Brita for the first time since she left for college
at family day where she showed us around all of her art classes

3.  Discovering an AWESOME new-to-us brewery: Sprague Farm & Brew Works

4.  Getting to spend Saturday with my family
and taking Lee & Jess to one of our favorite breweries: North Country Brewing
2nd brewery stop of the day :)

5.  Having a relaxing, cozy Sunday morning reading & drinking coffee
while the gloomy weather rained down outside

Russian River - Santa Rosa {California 2012 Recap}

After a day full of wine touring, we made our way over to Santa Rosa where we were staying for the weekend.  And there can only be one reason that we would choose this locations: BEER.

Santa Rosa just so happens to be the home of one of the greatest breweries in the country: Russian River.  So obviously, being the beer lovers that we are, we were most definitely ready for some brews after all the wine tasting.

Russian River is AWESOME.  We ended up going both nights that we were staying in Santa Rosa because we just couldn't get enough.  We even went there on our honeymoon.  We just really like good beer and this place has got it.

Oh, just sampling on tap

Annnnd conquered!

We love this place!  We even smuggled some beers home with us to Pittsburgh because we can't get their beer over here on the East Coast.  Totally worth the fee for having to check an extra luggage bag just full of alcohol... ;)

Up next... Day 2 of wine touring!

{5 Things I Loved About This Weekend}

This weekend we headed up to New York for a few days surrounded by friends, family, and lots of wine.  Brett's parents rented a cabin right on Chautauqua Lake for the weekend and a bunch of the Heher clan met up for some fun in the New York wine country.  We spent our time making our way around numerous wineries for some wine tasting and luckily got to see our good friends Dan & BreAnne, who we haven't seen since Summer.  It was a great weekend and the gorgeous Fall scenery made it even better.

Here are 5 things I loved about this weekend...

1.  The view from the cabin we stayed in with the Hehers all weekend
and the fact that it had a working fireplace for the chilly nights

2.  Meeting up with Dan & BreAnne (who we haven't seen in for-ev-er)
for some wine tastings and great winery views

3.  Making a stop at Southern Tier Brewing Company in the mist of all the wine tastings
(one of the coolest breweries!)

4.  Being completely surrounded by all the beautiful Fall leaves all weekend

5.  Spending Sunday evening all cozy in the house
baking pumpkin chocolate chip cookies & turkey chili

Castello di Amorosa - Calistoga {California 2012 Recap}

After our less than stellar experience at Chateau Montelena, our faith in wine country was totally restored with the next winery we visited!  We headed down the road to Castello di Amorosa, one of the highest rated wineries in the area.  As we made our way up the winding hill to the property, I knew this place was going to be so much better than the last.  The winery was designed after an authentically-styled 13th century Tuscan castle, complete with a draw bridge, moat, over 100 stone rooms, and even livestock that roam outside.  Um, AWESOME.

We started off with some tastings in the "dungeon" and then were free to roam around the castle.  This was one of our favorite experiences during our time in wine country.  I am so so glad we decided to go here.

I'll let the pictures do the talking for this place.
So awesome...

Awesome, right?

(Slowly making my way through these California recap posts...
there are just so many awesome places over there!)

{5 Things I Loved About This Weekend}

This weekend was a good one.  Everything about it just screamed "Fall".  The weather was gorgeous, pumpkin spice was added to everything, and our front porch got some new pumpkins.  We've been traveling so much lately that it was just so so nice to have a weekend spent at home relaxing and enjoying one of the best seasons of the year.

Here are 5 things I loved about this weekend...

1.  Having a relaxing evening in the backyard with pumpkin homebrew & a campfire
 and listening to the marching band at the Friday night football game in the distance

2.  Brett making some homemade pumpkin spice
that I then added to ev-er-y-thing :)

3.  Going to Trax Farms to pick some pumpkins
and snagging some awesome deals on veggies while we were there

4.  Baking up some spur-of-the-moment pumpkin muffins
and luckily having all the ingredients needed without having to make a grocery run

5. The absolutely most perfect weather all weekend long
