Blue Ridge Mountains -- Breweries!

My other favorite thing about the Blue Ridge Mountains area (besides the great hiking) is the plethora of amazing breweries.  I don't know what it is, but something about this area just churns out amazing beer!  And we were definitely sure to take advantage of this with multiple brewery visits throughout vacation!

Devil's Backbone Brewing Co...

Starr Hill Brewery...

Blue Mountain Brewery...

There is just something so perfect about watching a gorgeous sunset with good friends and good beer.  Cheers to an amazing vacation!  Brett and I are already starting to brainstorm our next... ;)

Blue Ridge Mountains -- Hiking!

Continuing on with a few posts from our Blue Ridge Mountains Getaway 2014!

A trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains is never complete without plenty of hiking!  Hiking is one of my favorite reasons to visit this area.  The amount of awesome trails to choose from is almost overwhelming, there are so many!  For this trip, we mostly chose trails that were accessible from the Blue Ridge Parkway.  And let me tell you, just driving along this iconic road provided some awesome scenery with plenty of pull-offs to take in the views.

And once we'd get to the trails and start hiking, plenty more amazing views awaited!

A short hike around Sherando Lake...

A sunset hike along the Appalachian Trail before dinner at Devil's Backbone Brewing Co...

A steep hike to Humpback Rocks...

An Easter Sunday hike along the Riprap trail in Shenandoah National Park...

Yay hiking!  And when we weren't hiking, can you guess where we were?
Yup!  Brewery touring our way through the Blue Ridge Mountain beer scene... :)
Coming up next!*

Scenes from the Weekend

A hot cup of coffee in the adorable mugs my mom got us for Easter!

Laying in the grass, soaking up the beautiful sunny weather

We hung outside allllll Saturday morning :)

Glorious trail run in South Park while Brett mountain biked

Using up the last of our Santa Fe spices that we got on our cross-country road trip... sad face!

An awesome 40 mile bike ride along the Montour Trail on Sunday

Conquered!  (I got so many compliments on my Dogfish Head bike jersey!)

Ending the weekend with some California wine and homemade pizza!

What a glorious weekend!  This is the first time we've been home on the weekend in over a month!  Not that I'm complaining because we've been doing some pretty awesome and fun things while away.  But nevertheless, it was definitely nice to have a weekend at home relaxing, cooking homemade meals, and opening some good beers and wines that we've been saving.  Cheers!*

Blue Ridge Mountains

Blue Ridge Mountains getaway 2014!

We had such a great time on this little vacation, especially with the addition of Lee & Jess this year!  We stayed at the same place as last year's trip (Misty Mountain), only in a different cabin.  We spent plenty of time hiking, biking (the boys), and visiting the local breweries in the area (some of our favorites!).  Even though this trip was only 4 days long (and seemed to fly by way too fast - don't they always?!), it was still an awesome and relaxing getaway in the mountains.  More to come!*

Scenes from the Weekend -- Blue Ridge Mountains Preview

Our awesome cabin / Conquering mountains

Devil's Backbone Brewing Co. / Starr Hill Brewery

Friends, sunsets, and Blue Mountain Brewery / Ice cream with a view

Live music, trail runs, lakeside reading, sunset hikes, beers at amazing breweries, awesome views from mountain tops, mid-trail lunches, games at Starr Hill, wandering Charlottesville while eating slices of pizza, late night burgers, music playing out of a 'siren' in Lee & Jess' car, sunset cornhole, eating half a dozen donuts in the entry way of Harris Teeter on Easter morning, free admission to national parks, cruising along Skyline Drive, delicious mexican on the patio of a great restaurant, and so many laughs with friends!

We had the best time on our Blue Ridge Mountains vacation!  There were plenty of hikes, brewery visits, good eats, fresh air, and fun with friends.  I love this area so much!  More photos from our mountain getaway to come!*

It's vacation time!

Brett and I are hitting the road and heading south for an awesome cabin getaway in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We've been wanting to go back to this area ever since we visited last year.  And this time, Lee and Jess will be joining us!  Bring on the fun!

Blue Ridge Mountains, here we come!*

Scenes from the Weekend

Camping weekend at Mohican State Park in Ohio!
(Brett's sister Kelly came & met us too!)

Busted out the big tent for this trip
(I don't think we've used it since our cross-country trip last summer!)

The weather was so perfect all weekend long

Introducing Kelly to a little bit of mountain biking!

After our successful mountain bike ride

We found a fire tower and climbed to the top for some awesome views

And checked out the covered bridge on the other side of the park

And did a short hike to this big waterfall

Then we drove home and capped off the weekend with a delicious dinner made by Brett!

Another great weekend spent completely outside!  We had no cell service the entire time we were camping, which was a nice and welcome change.  The weather was insanely beautiful (70s & 80s!) and so different from last weekend's camping trip (lows in the 30s!).  And now we only have a 3 day work week before we head out on our next adventure: our Blue Ridge Mountains vacation with Lee & Jess!  Hooray for fun!*
