"If I had my life to live over, I'd try to make more mistakes next time. I would relax. I would limber up. I'd be sillier than I have been on this trip. I know of a very few things I would take seriously. I would be less hygienic. I would take more chances. I would take more trips. I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers, and watch more sunsets. I would burn more gasoline and eat more ice cream and less beans. I would have actual troubles and fewer imaginary ones. You see, I'm one of those people who lives sensibly and sanely hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I've had my moments, and if I had my life to live over, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd have nothing else. Just moments. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead each day. I've been one of those people who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, hot water bottle, rain coat, and parachute. If I had my life to live over, I'd go places and do things and travel lighter than I have. If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would play hooky more. I wouldn't make such good grades, except by accident. I'd ride more merry-go-rounds. I'd pick more daisies." ~Nadine Stair, age 85
I was in need of some perspective & inspiration this morning.
Today after work, Brett and I are heading down to Maryland to visit my brother Lee & sister-in-law Jess for the weekend! Tomorrow is Lee's birthday and we will be spending it at the Northern Virginia Summer Brew Fest! And on Sunday we are hoping for some mountain biking action. Going to be a good weekend!
I'm starting up a new series here on the blog. I'm calling it "5 Things I Loved About This Weekend". Every Monday, I'm planning on posting some things I loved from the weekend. I always feel like the weekends race by way too fast. So this is my way of cherishing it a little bit longer & starting Monday off on a happy note. Hope you enjoy! And now for my first post of the series:
1. A relaxing bike ride on the trail near my house
2. Fresh homemade salsa using veggies from the local farmers market
3. Enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the patio
4. Biking with the family downtown for Father's Day
5. Winding down from the weekend with some Sunday night reading outside
I haven't had a chance to sort through my hundreds of photos from our Hilton Head Island vacation yet, but I'll leave you with one of my favorites. Just our beach chairs, umbrella, and us. We had the beach all to ourselves. Pure bliss. (And no, we did not stay in that enormous house haha)
Have a great weekend!*
PS - I updated my 365 Photo Blog with a few pictures from Hilton Head.
I can't believe it's June already. This year is flying by!
Can we just talk about this picture for a moment?!
Yesterday morning, there was an adult deer sitting in our yard as we were getting ready for work. It was sitting sort of funny, but I didn't think anything of it and left for work. On my way to work, I get a text from Brett (who leaves for work later than me) saying that the deer just had a baby! Like BIRTHED a baby deer IN OUR BACKYARD. Brett said it was covered in slime and was trying to stand up over and over again but just kept falling down in the process. We have a fence around our yard, so Brett opened the gates before he left for work, in case the baby learned how to walk while we were gone and wanted to get out of our yard.
When we got home from work, the baby deer was still in our yard and was in the process of learning to walk (above photo)! It was just walking/stumbling back and forth around our yard. It.was.the.cutest.thing.I.have.ever.seen!!! I think it was too scared to come down to the gate to get out, so Brett ended up scooping it up in a basket and putting it over on the other side of the fence. And then it stumbled/ran straight to its mama! It was AMAZING!
So that's my exciting story for the week. It was just such a cool thing to witness. I never would have thought I'd ever see something like that happen. It was awesome.
Anywho, Happy June!! Tomorrow at this time, Brett and I will be on our way to Hilton Head!! I have been so so busy this week that I didn't have any time to schedule any posts for while I'm gone, so the blog is going to be a little quiet over the next week. But I'll be back the following week!
