Ticket to Give

I'm assuming many of you are well aware of my obsession with Toms Shoes.  Well, they are currently hosting a contest:  Ticket to Give

*******

What is Ticket to Give 2013?

It’s a chance for you to join us on a Giving Trip. Fifty TOMS fans will be selected through this online contest and will travel with us to join our Giving Partners and help give shoes in the communities they serve.

What is a Giving Trip?

We give shoes year round with our Giving Partners (humanitarian organizations). And several times throughout the year, we bring TOMS employees and community members with us on Giving Trips. During these trips, we help our Giving Partners place new shoes on the feet of kids. The trips also give everyone an opportunity to see firsthand the work that our Giving Partners do 12 months a year, integrating TOMS Shoes into larger programs to improve education and health.

How does Ticket to Give 2013 work?

First, you create an entry that tells everyone what going on a Giving Trip would mean to you. Next, you share your entry with friends and family. Then the TOMS community votes, picking the 50 people who will go on a Giving Trip.

*******

This is absolutely the trip of a lifetime.  So, of course, I had to create an entry for a chance to win one of the fifty spots!  I couldn't even imagine how amazing it would be to go on one of these giving trips.  I'd be so happy if you'd please check out my entry!

I would love your vote!
Fingers crossed!!

One Day Without Shoes

One Day Without Shoes

Will you be barefoot today?
Even though I'll be in my office at work most of the day,
I'll be barefoot under my desk. ;)

Start Something that Matters

This book came in the mail a few days ago and I am SO excited to read it.  Blake Mycoskie and Toms Shoes has been a huge inspiration to me ever since 2007.  I went to a Hanson (yes, mmmbop... but that is a WHOLE 'nother post) concert and they had partnered up with Toms Shoes to do one mile walks to raise awareness for children who don't have shoes.  I bought my first pair of Toms at that walk in 2007 and was immediately inspired by the Toms movement (and everything Hanson was doing too).  Since that day in 2007, my Toms Shoes collection has grown to over 12 pairs.  I really need to take some pictures of all the different styles I have and do a post on them.  They are my most favorite shoes that I have ever ever owned.

When I found out Blake was coming out with a book, I was SO excited!  Taken straight from Blake's website, here's what "Start Something that Matters" is all about:

--------------------------------------------------------

"Love your work, work for what you love, and change the world—all at the same time.

What matters most to you? Should you focus on earning a living, pursuing your passions, or devoting yourself to the causes that inspire you? The surprising truth is that you don’t have to choose—and that you’ll find more success if you don’t. That’s the breakthrough message of TOMS’ One for One movement. You don’t have to be rich to give back and you don’t have to retire to spend every day doing what you love. You can find profit, passion, and meaning all at once—right now.

In Start Something That Matters, Blake Mycoskie tells the story of TOMS, one of the fastest-growing shoe companies in the world, and combines it with lessons learned from such other innovative organizations as method, charity: water, FEED Projects, and TerraCycle. Blake presents the six simple keys for creating or transforming your own life and business, from discovering your core story to being resourceful without resources; from overcoming fear and doubt to incorporating giving into every aspect of your life. No matter what kind of change you’re considering, Start Something That Matters gives you the stories, ideas, and practical tips that can help you get started.

Why This Book Is For You

  • You’re ready to make a difference in the world—through your own start-up business, a nonprofit organization, or a new project that you create within your current job.
  • You want to love your work, work for what you love, and have a positive impact on the world—all at the same time.
  • You’re inspired by charity: water, method, and FEED Projects and want to learn how these organizations got their start.
  • You’re curious about how someone who never made a pair of shoes, attended fashion school, or worked in retail created one of the fastest-growing footwear companies in the world by giving shoes away.
  • You’re looking for a new model of success to share with your children, students, co-workers, and members of your community."
--------------------------------------------------------

I haven't even started the book yet and I'm already inspired!  Do yourself a favor and go order this book.  I have a feeling it's going to be amazing.

This book will definitely be coming on the plane with me to California... {3 days!}
