Scenes from the Weekend

Spending the weekend among the forest trees
Backpacking to Dry Lake (separate post coming!)
Half way up the mountain!
Our little secluded campsite near Dry Lake
Back to civilization on Sunday morning
Hanging out, enjoying the sunshine at Big Bear Lake
Stopping by Hangar 24 Craft Brewery on our way home
And a relaxing stroll to dinner (Thai!) to round out the weekend

A weekend spent completely outside is my idea of perfection.  And getting away from crazy Orange County for a few days was juuust what we needed.  I can't believe it's Monday already... Hoping this workweek speeds by though, 'cause we've got family coming to visit on Friday!!  Hooray!*

Sun, Trees, Roadtrips, and You

I posted this picture on the blog a few years ago and recently rediscovered it.
Too cute and inspiring not to post again :)

Happy Thursday!*

Home...

"It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all."

While California is great and all,
I can't help but get nostalgic every once in a while,
wishing I was in Pittsburgh,
back at our home,
sitting on our patio,
and enjoying the sweet simple life.

Scenes from the Weekend

Pretty palm tree sunset on my way to the airport to pick up Brett!
(He was in San Francisco all week for work)
Grabbed some delish pizzas from Pieology on our way home - so yum!
A fun little Saturday afternoon bike ride
Followed by a trip to Valiant Brewing Co. (which we were sadly unimpressed with...)
Checking out the US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach
And a chill Sunday afternoon hike at Crystal Cove
Where Brett wrote my initials on the trail :)
And finishing off the weekend with awesome homemade enchiladas!

I'm so glad Brett is home!!
(I hate when he has to go out of town for work!)

Happy (?) Monday, everyone!*

That Time I Almost Stepped on a Rattlesnake...

Last Sunday (on Brett's actual birthday), we wanted to do something fun and get out of town for a while.  Since Brett is still mending his dislocated shoulder, we couldn't do anything too intense like biking or rock climbing.  So instead, we did the next best thing: more hiking!  We decided to head over to the Big Bear Lake area since we heard a lot of good things about it.  And I'm really glad we did!  We hit the road in the morning and spent the day hiking the Sugarloaf Mountain trail...

After 5 miles of really rocky terrain that went straight up, we finally made it to the top!  Sugarloaf Mountain -- elevation 9,952 feet!  Contrary to my hopes and dreams, there was no sugar at the top...

After signing the trail log (so fun reading through everyone's notes!) and taking a moment to enjoy the views, it was back down down down we went...

And on the way down, I had my first rattlesnake experience... OMG.  I'm sure this would have been a hilarious sight for a bystander, but thankfully no one else was around to witness my ridiculousness.  Brett was hiking in front of me and I was following behind.  I guess he didn't see the snake until after he passed it and when he realized what it was (and as I was walking RIGHT by it), he started screaming "omg omg omg babe babe!" and started grabbing me.  I, not having the slightest clue as to what was going on (I didn't notice the snake), started freaking out and running/jumping/climbing up Brett.  Was I about to be attacked by a bear?!  A mountain lion?!  T-Rex?!  WHAT!  By the time we were out of harm's way and I climbed back down to the ground from Brett's back... he showed me the snake.  I almost STEPPED on that thing!!  It was giving me the evil eye and I made sure to keep my distance.  Luckily, it must have been a lazy rattlesnake because it didn't really move much.  It just watched us with its devil eyes.  You better believe I was scanning the ground constantly for the remainder of the trip down the mountain.  And then I consumed lots of beer at dinner afterwards to forget that awful creature.

And thus concludes another installment of Brett and Anna's ridiculous adventures.

"Always take the scenic route..."

"Always take the scenic route..."

Last Saturday, we were on our way to dinner and decided to make a detour to the beach to catch the sunset.  There is something so powerful about sunsets.  They never fail to make me sloooow down from the daily hustle and bustle and stop to appreciate this life I live.  I never want to take sunsets for granted.  I never want to be too busy to stop and take in one of these beautiful sights.  Sometimes I feel like I actually need them... to readjust my mind and put things into perspective.  I want to see as many sunsets as possible, especially while living in California where we can appreciate them from these gorgeous beaches.  Here's to many, many more sunsets ...and sunrises, too!

Happy Wednesday!*

Happy Birthday Babe!

Today is my favorite person's birthday!
Happy 29th birthday, babe!!*

I am so lucky to be married to such an adventurous, sweet, and cute (!!) husband
who agrees to crazy ideas like moving across the entire country!
It's never a dull moment and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I can't wait to celebrate all weekend long!
Love you, babe :)
